“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit.

Random Shiz

Blogging from outside the house, savoring the windy, lazy afternoon while Amber is asleep.

Lemme share some good things over the net that makes me giddy and sane.

Eye sketches utterly fascinate me.
Hopefully my birthday present to myself.

Read: 50 Shades Trilogy

I must say the hype did it again.

This book has been creating quite a noise in the mainstream lately. I have been hearing ravings about it and quite frankly it caught me, left me itching to see for myself what the craze is all about.

Honestly, I do not have a time to start on another good book. You see, I am not the type who gets on with their lives most of the day and picks up a book on the side of their bed for easy doze off. I do not read to fill in an idle time. I read because I like the story. I read because I fall in love with the characters. That is why when I start on something, especially if it's a good book, I want to finish it without any delay. I mean, for me it's like a good TV series to be watched on a marathon, or a movie with no commercials. Do you get the picture? So when I was faced with a challenge to come up with a receipt worth 500Php in less than an hour, I decided to buy a book. Finally, after months I'll try to start on something. 50 Shades of Grey came to mind. However, to my dismay it's out of stock and I do not have enough time to wander elsewhere. I grabbed the second-slash-should-really-be-the-first-choice: The Game of Thrones instead.

But then again, the hype on this E.L. Jame's novel is too strong it even reached the office, lol. I was reading my newly bought book when I overheard my officemates exchange ravings about this that it made me drop what I was currently reading. I asked for a copy of the first book and started reading the first chapter, just to see what's the commotion is all about. Unfortunately, I got hooked. Since the book is much easy to read than The Game of Thrones, I continued.

Whoa. Honestly, I thought it was just a love story, a twilight saga kind of story. Boy I was soooo wrong. This book should be R18 (do they even have these kinds of ratings for books?).

Kaloka.

So let me share my take on this in few points.

1. Writing
I personally do not like how it was written. Okay, I am definitely not in any position to judge or whatever, but I think it was very elementary. Descriptions were used in the very same manner over and over again in many parts of the book. I mean, sure she could think of a lot of different creative ways to describe something in a refreshing way, without sounding too familiar or worst, overly redundant.

2. The subconscious/ inner goddess thing
Lame presentation. It sounds corny most of the times which makes me roll my eyes while reading. Seriously?

3. Details
Okay, I have to admit it was very detailed which uhmm...made it really easy to imagine. Lol, don't deny it. This is the only part of the writing which I liked because it gives the readers clear view of what it wants to deliver. Even the feel and the mood, it was there.

4. Psych/ Case Analysis
One reason why it pushed me to read it until the ending is Christian's case. From the beginning, it was so clear that the guy has problem and of course it has something to do with his past. The author did a great job in keeping what's behind everything that leaves the reader wanting more. Each book is a cliffhanger driving you utterly wanting to start on the next book immediately. Christian's character is so annoying that it drives you frustrated, wanting to know everything about his past, unraveling why he (a perfect man) have such a lifestyle. Disappointment came to me when the story of his past came short. I mean yun na yun? I think the build up on the mystery behind Christian's past was too strong it failed to be captured greatly in the later part. I mean for a reader, they are definitely looking forward to the reason behind his lifestyle but it wasn't given much emphasis and justice. Or so I think.

5. Emails
These are my favorites. Especially the part when Christian is changing his signature, adding his current feeling. Such in-the-moment kind of guy. :)

6. Erotic Scenes
Maybe the author just couldn't get enough? Or maybe it depends on the reason why you are reading it. If it is for the erotic pleasure it brings, sure you'll enjoy. If it's the story and oh for crying out loud, all about Christian, you'll skip some of those parts--like me. I mean, yes it's an erotic novel ofcourse it's mostly about sex but it came to the point where it doesn't feel erotic anymore. Nakakasawa, for the lack of a better term. I just want to get on the reason behind all of those things.

7. Characters
Corny kung corny but the hell, I fell in love with Christian Grey. I am just so naive I fall for the perfect guy. Sure one can dream, right? He's the reason why I DESPERATELY find time to read the novel-- on MRT (standing or not), shuttle, while eating, while working (hihi)-- I MAKE time. I love how he was presented in the story, how beautiful and perfect and just a dream-Lol. The author described him well that if this will really be a movie, they'd better invest on the actor's appearance cause people will definitely be expecting SO MUCH. Ugh. So dreamy, this character.
Anastasia Steele. I find so much similarity with the character that I definitely can relate. Being more honest and verbal in texts/emails, and braver with the help of  little alcohol are just two of many things I see myself in this character.

In general, the book is just average. Nothing great actually. If you want just the right kind of romantic novel with an erotic twist, you may like this one. I guess since this is Twilight-inspired love story, candied with eroticism that it made the hype. I liked it because I fell in love with one character as I saw myself in the other. It's such an entertainment I must say. So yeah, there's nothing wrong in giving in and joining the bandwagon to see what's it all about. You may like it, you may not. But you experienced it and you had your take on it.

An oh, I think he'll be a perfect Christian Grey in movie. I don't effin' care if he's gay, he's hotttt!

It's windy but a sudden warm surge of contentment permeates me as we stroll around the vast space of green land. The view is breathtaking, picturesque like I have always fancied it in my dreams.
The sky is in perfect blend of various shades of orange and blue, the color of one beautiful day ending with intoxicating sense of gratefulness.

We halted in the edge of the hill overseeing the Pacific Ocean. The breeze is soothing, horizon is promising and the feeling is overwhelming. On our background is a lighthouse. We can be framed in this priceless landscape of perfect panorama.
To say Batanes is breathtakingly beautiful is surely an understatement.

Dumbstricken of this glorious place,  we haven't notice we were silent the whole time. I don't mind. Silence has never been this comfortable. This is what I have always dreamed to be, here with him.

I stare ahead, rested my head on his shoulder and smile as we chase the sunset. I can live with this view forever. I close my eyes and succumb to this infinite moment. I am in cloud nine, trapped in between dreams and reality to good to be true.
How else could this get any better?

Silence broke.
"Marry me."

 I froze, eyes wide open.

Then a loud ringing noise startled me. I opened my eyes and exhaled nonchalantly.

Oh right. I was dreaming.
Of course.
